Lawrence Cotton

A past member of Montreal Opera’s Atelier Lyrique training program, Lawrence made his professional Operatic debut with the Montreal Opera as Marullo in Rigoletto. Other credits: Jake, original revival cast in Show Boat; Auctioneer/Mr. Bouquet in the Phantom of the Opera; Modern Baroque Opera Company’s production of librettist and director Peter Hinton and composer Peter Hannan’s Opera 120 Songs For The Marquis de Sade, (Jessie Richardson award best supporting actor). The father in Baldassari Galupi’s Opera Il Filosofo di Campagna; Arnolphe in School for Wives; Roat in Dial M for Murder; Einstein in Picasso at the Lapin Agile. T.V.: Taken; The Lone Gunman; Hustle the Pete Rose Story. Currently developing projects with writer/composer Greg Robic to introduce kids to Opera, their adaptation of the Magic Flute debuted in French at the Montreal Baroque Festival in the summer of 2006 and saw performances at both Toronto’s Luminato Festival and Toronto Music Garden last June. This past summer Mr. Cotton directed Monteverdi’s Opera Il Favola di Orfeo for the Montreal Baroque Festival winning best musical production for 2007 from the City of Montreal Arts Council. Lawrence and Greg’s adaptation of the same Opera entitled Orfea and the Golden Harp debuted this past summer at the same festival and will be seen at Toronto Harbourfront’s What Is Classical Festival Sunday July 27th and the Toronto Music Garden Sunday August 10th this coming summer.
